Silicon Carbide
Description
Silicon carbide (SiC) is made of quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal coke), wood chips (salt is needed to produce green silicon carbide) and other raw materials through high temperature smelting resistance furnace.Silicon carbide is also a rare mineral in nature, mosanite. Silicon carbide is also known as carbonosilicate. ln contemporary C, N, B and other non-oxide high technology refractory raw materials, silicon carbide is the most widely used, and the most economic one.
Usage and advantages
Four main applications of silicon carbide: functional ceramics, advanced refractories, abrasives and metallurgical raw materials. Silicon carbide coarse material can be supplied in large quantities, so it is not a high-tech product. However, the application of nanometer silicon carbide powder with high technical content is unlikely to form economies of scale in a short time.
As an abrasive, can be used to produce abrasive tools, such as grinding wheel, whetstone, grinding head, sand tile class.
Used as a metallurgical deoxidizer and high temperature material.
High purity single crystal, can be used in the manufacture of semiconductors, the manufacture of silicon carbide fiber.
