Ferrosilicon
Description
Ferrosilicon is a steel alloy made by combining iron and silicon with coke, steel chips, and quartz (or silica). It is commonly used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking due to the affinity between silicon and oxygen, which leads to the formation of silicon dioxide. Additionally, the high heat released during the production of SiO2 is advantageous for raising the temperature of molten steel during deoxidation。
Usage and advantages
Ferroalloy is utilized as a reducing agent in steelmaking industry, serving as a deoxidizer and alloy. Similarly, in the cast iron industry, it serves as an inoculant and spheroidizer.
